Hot on the heels of the HTML150, Lighthouse Labs is bringing our part-time Intro to Web Development course to Ottawa, Saskatoon and London starting on May 8th!

The HTML150 brought together organizations and individuals from each of these cities who are invested in improving their digital literacy by learning the basics of coding. We want to extend that opportunity and ride the momentum of the HTML150 by providing access to courses that will expand the knowledge covered at the free one-day event. If you didn't get a chance to attend the HTML150 in person, you can follow along from home in our free HTML & CSS Essentials course.

To offer this course, we’ve partnered with organizations central to their individual tech communities, including TechAlliance, Innovation Place and Impact Hub Ottawa. There will be local Developers who will be instructing and mentoring this course, allowing you to grow your network and gain valuable insight into your local industry. By partnering with key organizations and bringing in Developers from your community, you’ll have access to the most relevant skills and expertise demanded in your individual area.

James Chan from Impact Hub sees the increasing need for tech skills: “Digital technologies play an increasingly important role in how we interact and engage with one another, how we access services and opportunities, and even how we effect change and create social impact, so we are thrilled to partner with Lighthouse Labs to bring this opportunity for learning and development to Ottawa.”

Our Intro to Web Development course is created for anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of coding. You’ll cover how to create content using HTML, CSS, Ruby and Sinatra, allowing you to build your own basic web pages. You’ll also cover essential Developer knowledge like databases, services, UX/UI, object oriented programming and project management using GitHub.

“Our focus in running our HTML150 event was to provide more access to coding education across the country. By setting up our Intro to Web Development course in communities that don’t have many alternatives to tech education, we’re able to provide access to skills that are in demand in some of Canada’s fastest growing tech communities” says Jeremy Shaki, Co-Founder at Lighthouse Labs.

The Intro to Web Development course can prepare you for many different career paths, including working in a hybrid role, creating and editing basic web pages for your company, communicating with a Developer team or gaining a better understanding of the scope of your project. Whether you’re an entrepreneur looking to bring your idea to life, a coding hobbyist looking to push your skills forward or an aspiring Developer, this course has something to offer for all entry-level coders.

Spaces are limited in the Intro to Web Development course starting on May 8th. Lighthouse Labs only has plans to run these courses once, so if learning to code and boosting your technical literacy is high on your priority list, we recommend you submit your application as soon as possible.
