Lighthouse Labs Launches Full-Time Coding Bootcamp in the Okanagan

With emphasis on their 100% employment rate, Lighthouse Labs is adding developers to the Okanagan’s booming tech scene.

Kelowna, BC - November 18th

Join us for an info session for our new Okanagan programs on November 26th!

Lighthouse Labs has partnered with co+Lab to launch the Okanagan’s first Web Development Bootcamp. With established locations in Vancouver, Toronto & Calgary, and over 350 graduates across the country, Lighthouse Labs will debut its vaunted full-time program on March 28th while premiering an Intro to Web Development course on Jan 25th. Twelve spots are available in the debut cohorts, both of which will be taking place within Kelowna’s most established co-working space.

With an expanding tech scene, the need for new developers has created a bottleneck for further growth in the Okanagan. co+Lab has reached out to the Founders of Lighthouse Labs to help solve the talent crisis:

“Having watched the tech growth in this community over the years, it became apparent to me that the need for talent has become an extremely high priority. This type of experiential learning is vital to those who desire to build technical coding skills and fast track themselves into the industry.” says Shane Austin, Co-founder of co+Lab. “When I saw the rave reviews from their alumni and companies who had hired from Lighthouse Labs, it became a no-brainer to bring them into our burgeoning tech community.”

The 8 week Web Development Bootcamp boasts an unprecedented 100% employment rate for their job-seeking graduates, many of which have little previous exposure to coding. The Intro to Web Development Course will give students a comprehensive introduction to software development.

The fundamental belief of Lighthouse Labs is that coding is a craft and should be taught as a trade. The program boasts agile curriculum that focuses on the most relevant skills, industry professionals as teachers, keeps small classes with a 1 to 7 teacher to student ratios and uses a hands on approach where students learn by building web applications.

“People go through school for a degree that doesn’t necessarily leave them with practical, job applicable skills.” Explained Chris Gliddon, Community Manager at Lighthouse Labs. “When students graduate from the Lighthouse Labs program, they have the hands-on experience needed to succeed and be employable as a developer. The program is all about outcomes and results.”

Lighthouse Labs is currently accepting applications for their Intro to Web Development course beginning on January 25th, and the inaugural Okanagan Web Development Bootcamp on March 28th. There will be an info session on November 26th at co+Lab for anyone interested in learning more about the program, curriculum or career services.

“At the end of the day, this isn’t a gold rush where you come in and we hand you a job.” Says Jeremy Shaki, Co-Founder and CEO at Lighthouse Labs. “Coding has democratized creation and allows for people with ideas to build them into real products, and the people who will succeed in this field are people who are going to love the process and journey of coding as much as the destination. That’s what we look for in our candidates.”
